There are more than cherry trees that bloom in DC...
The annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC is one of the most popular times of the year for visitors to plan a trip to the area in hopes of seeing the cherry trees in bloom. Typically, the trees are in bloom the last part of March and the first part of April. The average historic peak bloom is on April 4th. The trees are in bloom about 2 weeks (peak bloom about 4 days). This page is devoted to the vast majority of you who will be visiting DC the 50 weeks of the year that the Cherry Trees are not in bloom.
George Washington, who had been a land surveyor in the area in his youth, would be the first to tell you that there are more than cherry trees that bloom in Washington DC. In light of all of the above.......I thought I would share some well known and some lesser known nearby horticultural points of interest that some of you might want to explore during your visit.
